Surgery Doctor Recommendations

Have been diagnosed with Venoous congestion with styloids and IJV compression. C1-C2 transverse process also an issue.
Would like to see Dr. Hepworth but wondering about Cognetti and Constantino?
I was high speed rear end MVA with left side airbag hit

Dr Cognetti apparently has a long waiting list, I presume that Dr Hepworth still does too, so maybe worth trying Dr Costantino?

Thank you. I reached out today to Dr. Constantio
Spoke with assistant Chantel
1st consult via zoom is July 23
Surgery after that depending on hospital and ironing out fees being out of country.
So have lots info to send at this time.
Constantio + Tobias about $ 40k US…hospital charges to be decided. That is per side…
Do you know of any insurance that covers out of country coverage in event of longer stay?
Thanks Jules :star_struck:

This question has been asked a number of times by our CA members who were considering coming to the US for surgery. As far as we know there is no company who offers that sort of insurance. Some of our CA members have made appeals in CA for reimbursement due to the lack of surgeons who do the needed surgery in your country. As far as I know, though, no one has had success getting reimbursed. I’m sorry for the bad news.

Dr. Cognetti’s fee is the lowest for out of country patients, but when Dr. Heller needs to be included for IJV decompression, the bill is higher, close to $40K USD, I believe but in that case, hospital costs are included.

We can discuss Friday. It would be a different insurance. Know surgery not covered.

I’m glad that he doesn’t have so long a wait! Fingers crossed for you :folded_hands: :crossed_fingers:

I am going to have IJV decompression surgery with Dr. Constantino and Tobias. Canadian insurers generally do not provide medical coverage for OOC surgical emergencies unless you are in US for a non-medical reason. I found a company called

Global Protective Solutions (https://www.medicaltourisminsurance.com/)

which offers specialty OOC emergency medical insurance for Canadians having elective procedures in US to deal with complications etc. Cost is about $1,400 USD for $150k max coverage, ranging over different cost types. $90k for complications. Maybe worth giving them a look…

Thanks for that info @Dave , have you got a date for your surgery?

That’s great news about the insurance, @Dave. We’ve had quite a number CA members search for something like that over the years without finding coverage. I’m glad it exists.

Hi Jules, yeah its July 15th in NY. Happy to hopefully get a solution, on one side to start, but what a nightmare this all is.
