@Dave - I’m sorry you’re having that experience. I also had symptoms on the other side get worse while I was healing from my first styloidectomy. By the time I was a couple of months out from surgery #1, I was definitely ready for surgery #2, but my surgeon wouldn’t do another surgery till I was 6 months out from the first one. It was a LONG wait! Some people have had to wait much longer for a second surgery though.
Hi Dave. My name is Kat. How have you been feeling since your surgery…. great I hope. I’m also from BC and am scheduled for surgery with Costantino/ Tobias in January. I’m having serious second thoughts. Was hoping to connect with another BC-er that went through with it. I’m having troubles with things like getting an itemized quote, figuring out what forms of payment they accept, and gettIng my follow-up appt scheduled. Any insights you (or another international patient) could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Happy holidays everyone!
I hope you get an answer , it’s frustrating not getting the answers you need for reassurance! Dr C’s office did have problems a while back, but we’ve heard that this has improved…unfortunately that seems to be an issues with other VES doctors! I have sent a link with an invite to a message thread for Canadian members, there might be some help for you that way.
@Kat - If things get too frustrating w/ Dr. Costantino’s office, & you decide to cancel, Dr. Nakaji is equally qualified & experienced with the surgery you need plus he’s closer to you being in Arizona. He would be another good option for you.
I’m sorry communication between Dr. Costantino’s office & you has not been good. I can imagine that’s very nerve-racking as your surgery date is approaching.
Thank you so much for the empathy!! Great suggestion about Dr Nakaji. I’ve heard great firsthand feedback about him. Sadly he turned me down. I’ve been offered some great suggestions from Dave that have reinvigorated me! So I’ll carry on trying to make it work with Drs Costantino and Tobias.
Again, so kind of you to offer your support,
Kat
I’m sorry
Dr. Nakaji turned you down. He is pickier about whom he’ll operate on than some of the other vES surgeons on our Doctors List.
Yes. I’ve heard that feedback
about Dr Nakaji. I was devastated at the time. But Bonnie (another member) offered an interesting perspective … perhaps Drs Costantino and Tobias have the best-suited skill set for the type of compression I have. I found that to be helpful insight. It never stops amazing how deeply powerful these supports are… of course all down to the generosity, compassion, and knowledge of the all the members. I’m honoured to be a part of this community.
Cheers,
Kat
We’re very happy you’ve joined us, @Kat, but are sorry that you needed to.
Beautifully put. ![]()
Happy Holidays,

I hope your holidays are happy, too, Kat. ![]()
Thank you so much for checking in! I really appreciate you telling me about Dave. I did get a reply from him. I have a couple more questions answered… but not gonna lie … still a lot of missing info. I’m a hot mess.
Cheers,
Kathleen
It’s very frustrating when the answers you need/want aren’t forthcoming in the timeframe you feel you need them. I hope you’re able to get your questions answered ASAP so you can start feeling more at ease about your surgery or so that you can choose a different surgeon if that seems more appropriate.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support. I’m so grateful for this community.
Happy Holidays
