@harrisonboy - I think your best course of action is to request a call back from Dr. Liu to discuss the anesthesiologist’s conversation with you as @MGORNEAU suggested. Cancelling your surgery without at least discussing the anesthesiology issue w/ Dr. Liu could be an unnecessary loss for you if it’s the cause of you declining surgery.
If you have a conversation w/ Dr. Liu & still feel unheard regarding anesthesia, then perhaps you have your answer. If he is helpful & confirming regarding your situation then that could be your sign to go ahead with the surgery.
Please don’t “throw in the towel” w/o first talking to Dr. Liu. There’s a lot at stake for you either way.
I will let their office know. He and his team seem very nice and trying to help but I have ran intobthis before where the anesthesiologist just don’t really comprehend how much damage these drugs do to certian people.
I just can’t have this major surgery and then have to try and fight through severe reactions at the same time. He would have to assure me this isn’t going to happen, and I dont know if he can do that.
How are you doing? Did you get any answer about the anesthetist? Are you planning on trying the surgery next week or have you accepted its too much for you?
Not good. I am so sick, my wife is wanting me to cancel the trip and surgery. I believe I have just ran out of time and there are just too many other disorders that I am having that this isn’t going to happen for me. We prayed so hard for this opportunity for me to have a life again, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
I’m sorry & sad to get the information in your update. Can you decide last minute about whether you’d be able to travel for the surgery in case you have an upswing in how you’re feeling next week? I have been praying for God to make it clear if surgery is the best thing to help you. I am still hopeful it could be, but you know your body & what you’re able to tolerate. I’m glad your wife is working together with you to help you decide if making the trip to NJ is possible. I will continue to pray for God’s healing touch on your body.
Hey @harrisonboy I’m sorry you are feeling so brutalized and beat down by your circumstances. It all sound so very difficult for you and I’m so sorry for your suffering. I have followed your posts as they come in and I see that you have mentioned suicide on more than 1 occasion. I think it’s natural for the mind to look for a way out of the pain. But I have to say that despite your thoughts about it, you are still here and I think that is significant. I looks like somewhere deep inside yourself you want to live and have a happy life. Someone once said (attributed to Churchill) if you are going through hell, keep going. I know you are very concerned about surgery but based on the feedback from Dr. Liu it looks like a real option to get you through this. It’s likely not going to be a perfect process but in the end, after all the recovery, it’s a chance at happiness which is something you don’t have (as you describe yourself) where you are. It take a lot of courage to choose to move into fear to try and get the quality of life you are hoping for. I’ve read your story and I think you have shown yourself to be very courageous. I hope you can find, in yourself and with the support of this community (@Jules, @Isaiah_40_31 and the rest), the strength to move forward with Dr. Liu and we will all celebrate with you on the other side. The alternative you are considering will still be there in the future if you want to choose it then. But hopefully it will just be a thought that is in your rearview mirror as you move into the a better time of life.
I am just in a situation where I need the surgery but so sick I can’t even get there to have it. My wife has asked me to cancel the surgery and I have. Honestly I need a miracle to be in good enough shape to ever do this. After 7 years of failed surgeries, dozens of procedures and drugs, my mind body and soul are just no longer able to get enough strength to move forward. For now, I am just trying to hang on. Bless all of you who have been praying and hoping for my miracle.
The prayers will continue for you, @harrisonboy. My hope is your symptoms will recede enough for you to have a window of opportunity to travel to Dr. Liu for surgery at some point. It doesn’t sound like now is the right time but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a right time.
So sorry that you had to cancel the surgery , it’s such a hard decision when surgery is possibly the only chance to resolve some of your symptoms, but you’re not up to going through it… praying for more than just hanging on for you, and praying for your wife too, watching you go through this
@harrisonboy sending you all my good thoughts. Sorry things did not work out this time, but I hope the stars can align so you can have surgery.
I expect you’ve turned over many stones trying to figure out the travel issue, but there’s a service called non-emergency medical transport (NEMT) where they have a nurse accompany and care for the passenger during the whole trip.
They don’t offer the comprehensive medical support an air ambulance would, but it is far cheaper and is a lot more than you would get by just traveling with a friend or relative.
I found a couple of such companies just Googling. I don’t know about their quality, this is just to give an idea of what’s out there:
As Dr. Liu believes your case is urgent, I’m sure he’ll be happy to support your requests if any documentation, etc. is needed.
I don’t know about finances, insurance coverage etc. but if you haven’t looked into this avenue, it can’t hurt to inquire.
I do hope you can find a way to make the trip to Dr. Liu.
I even have emergency air ambulace insurance, but they won’t cover this. They say it isn’t an emergency and even of it was, they determine if there is another, closer surgeon who can do the surgery. The insurance really isn’t that great. Thanks so much fornthe information. At this point, I think my body is justntoo broken to even do this. Bless you fornyour prayers.
I am continuing for God to make a way for you to have the surgery. Perhaps Dr. Liu could make an appeal to your air ambulance insurance co. to indicate your surgery is an emergency & your situation is life ending if not dealt with ASAP.
Please don’t surrender to your situation. As long as you have breath, there is hope of recovery.
