I am currently waiting on receiving the contract from Dr. Aghayev tomorrow morning. Then signing it before wiring and having my bank confirm with the clinic in Istanbul that the money has been sent.
Assuming the contract arrives, I will be able to send the money across to him tomorrow before travelling on sunday the 3rd, alongside a friend whom is coming with me. Friday is holidays in Norway, so I will not be able to garner a confirmation of initiated transfer then.
After which I will meet Dr. Aghayev on the 4th of May and then my surgery at 6th of May.
This is where I get off, ladies and gentlemen.
Though I will remain with the forum and share my story with the world as many others have.
Thank you for letting us know about your surgery date & what’s happening over the next week for you @Rehri. We always hate to see our members move on because you are all like family, but we absolutely celebrate when it’s because symptoms are gone, & you’ve been able to start living again!

I recall @Henrik got some publicity after his ES surgery. I’m so glad he & @Lenaj have been proactive in getting the word out about ES in your country. I hope that one day there will also be surgeons who also do IJV decompressions.
Hello, Anita! I live in Canada, and I had a unilateral styloidectomy and C1 TP shave surgery done on Apr 16th by Dr. Aghayev in Istanbul.
For payment, I took the USD sum as cash, as it was 30% less than doing a wire transfer. It is quite risky, but I couldn’t afford to spend that 30% extra.
From a legal perspective, I had to submit a form at Toronto airport declaring that I had that much cash on me. I think it wasn’t required because no one stopped me and asked for it, but given that I didn’t want any trouble, I submitted it.
From a logistics perspective, I kept the sum in a small money bag tied to my person at all times.

Hello I haven’t posted yet because i am still in recovery as my main symptom tinnitus has not changed. Dr Aghayev did a brilliant job but unfortunately my dominant side was a revision and he was unable to remove all the scar tissue. He opened up my other side beautifully so it is a wait and see to see if that side can become dominant. All of my collateral veins were gone at my one day post op scan
That’s a remarkable finding, @Gina1961 i.e. that your collateral veins were all gone the day after your surgery!! It sounds like Dr. Aghayev did a great job opening your remaining IJV even if he couldn’t remove all the scar tissue left from your first surgery. I hope this second surgery makes a HUGE difference in how you feel.
Tinnitus can take many months to resolve & unfortunately, it’s the one symptoms that often doesn’t go away, but that doesn’t mean it won’t reduce in volume. I hope in your case it’s just a matter of time before it’s no longer bothering you!

Dr Aghayev and his team are beyond excellent and the Acabadem Hospital was very comfortable. There is a sofa bed for your companion plus they are provided with the same meals as you.
The ct machine used for my pre op scan was only one month out of the factory - very impressive - the scan was so quick I wondered if they had done it.
I had no issue with post surgery pain which I had seen mentioned a few times and had wondered how it would be without a morphine pump. I have issues sleeping and had my sleeping medication with me which may have helped. My neck was uncomfortable rather than painful.
Considering it was a 5 hour bilateral surgery (1 hr lhs 4hrs rhs revision ) the recovery was very similar to my first unilateral surgery. I had cranial nerve monitoring and had no problems with first bite syndrome or shoulder issues. My scar is considerably smaller than my first surgery and I already have the feeling back in my left ear. In fact the lhs of my head feels completely normal . Unfortunately my right ear is still numb from my original surgery and parts of my head from this surgery are also still numb so healing is on going. I also was able to sleep on both sides of my head immediately post surgery which was good as I am a side sleeper and I was concerned about that after my first surgery when I was unable to lie on my operated side for quite some time.
I spent 4 nights in hospital and was discharged with ten days worth of anti inflammatory medication - 24 hr release voltaren to be taken at night plus something else I took once during the day. Also medication to protect my stomach. I had no nausea this time which was great.
Im hoping that with time I will have improvement with my tinnitus and sleep. Although my lhs is open and all collaterals are gone my rhs is compressed by scar tissue and nothing further can be done. Dr Aghayev said my original surgery had removed enough of the c1 for most people but I needed more due to my anatomy which is disappointing. There is a lot of conjecture around how much to remove so I was unlucky.

What were your symptoms? What symptoms did you have after the surgery? Did you only have tinnitus ? (tinnitus can be caused by several things, not just veins) Can you send me your MRI/CT scans before and after the surgery via email to filatovtech@mail.ru
