Thanks @TML for interpreting those scans, so helpful!
@SKC100 , Mr Axon is the best surgeon that we know of in the UK for IJV compression, if you see him it would be worth checking which side he’d do first if he offers you surgery; if he removed the left then the calcified ligament section would also need to be removed ideally so ask him about that.
He used to work with a Mr Higgins, a vascular surgeon, but not sure that Mr Higgins is at Addenbrooks any more, so I don’t know if Mr Axon works with someone else…
There may well be other head and neck vascular surgeons who could do the surgery, but we don’t know about them; I did see a documentary though about the skull base team & neurologists a Mr Richard Irwin & Dr Alex Paluzzi at Birmingham QE hospital who did some pretty impressive skull base surgery, so as that’s close to you whether that might be worth a try if your GP doesn’t want to refer you to Mr Axon? Mr Hughes in London has done some surgeries too but not sure that he goes close enough to the skull base for removing IJV compression fully…
There are some useful research papers which might be handy to either send you GP links to or to print out & take with you, one about carotid artery dissection, & 2 by Mr Axon:
Bilateral carotid dissection due to Eagle syndrome in a young female - General / Research Papers - Living with Eagle
Dr. Higgins & Dr. Axon : Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension Complicated by Subdural Effusions Treated by Surgical Relief of Cranial Venous Outflow Obstruction - General / Research Papers - Living with Eagle
Evaluation Of Styloidectomy As An Alternative to Jugular Stenting - General / Research Papers - Living with Eagle
I hope this helps & you can get the referral ![]()
