3D Scans - Recently diagnosed

Hi all!

I was diagnosed yesterday by an oral surgeon after a CT scan. I’ve attached them for y’all’s thoughts.

I have been have random neck pain when moving my neck, chest pain that is intense and comes for 20 seconds and leaves, jaw pain similar to TMJ symptoms, night sweats, and more. After finally have an oral surgeon take me seriously, he has recommended me to Asheville ENT. Not sure if it will go anywhere but I’m tempted to just call Dr. Fargens office at Wake Forest as I’m only a couple hours away.

Anyways, let me know what you think of the scans. They did not show my blood flow, just the bone structures.

Thank you and I’m so happy to be a part of the community.

Wow @Girgz they are some serious spikes! I am sure there will be more comments about these from other members soon. I wish you luck with getting these sorted.

Hi Girgz, & welcome!

Wow, they re very nasty styloids! They are pretty long, very pointy & angled…they’re very weird looking at the top, they look quite thick there, & then jointed- this often happens when the stylo-hyoid ligament calcifies at the end of the styloid, or very rarely if there’s been a fracture. It looks like you have quite a big gape between the styloids and the C1 processes because of their angle, which is good as often there can be compression of the internal jugular veins between the two.

The neck pain is common with ES, some of your symptoms could be vagus nerve related as that nerve is often irritated with ES, the chest pain & the night sweats possibly. Chest pain can also perhaps be caused by the carotid artery being irritated.

Dr Hackman in NC is very experienced and has done many surgeries if he’s nearer than Dr Fargen, although it doesn’t hurt to get several opinions. It’s certainly worth seeing a doctor with experience as many doctors are ignorant about ES, and dismissive, so it could be worth ringing before you go to your local ENT to see if they treat it, save wasting time. I hope that you’re able to get some treatment soon!

Thank you so much! I am hoping to get into Dr, Hackmans office. Really concerned about the cost of all of this.

Are you also saying that it looks like I’m clear of any issues with the IJV or ICA?

It looks like you’re most likely clear of IJV issues, but ICA could be a problem w/ as long as your styloids are. Without being able to see the ICAs in relation to your styloids, there’s no way to tell for sure. Dr. Hackman could certainly help with that. Dr. Fargen is booked out for months so Dr. Hackman would be a better place to start, plus, I don’t know if Dr. Fargen does many ES surgeries & Dr. Hackman is very experienced w/ them.

Unless you have a CT scan with contrast, you can’t see the blood vessels, so can’t say for sure that you don’t have any issues. There’s info in the Newbies Guide Section about symptoms & possible explanations, you could have a look & see whether your symptoms indicate vascular symptoms- chest pain can be caused by irritation of the carotid artery, but also possibly from the vagus nerve being irritated.
