Best type of CT to have doctor order

I had my left styloid removed 4 years ago with great results.

My new primary wants to check on my right side. I have only one symptom which may not be related to Eagles, heart arrhythmia.

Any info for what should be used in having a CT scan would be helpful. Thanks!

@Katflorida - Heart arrhythmias can be caused by the vagus nerve being irritated by an elongated styloid or calcified stylohyoid ligament. It might be best to get a CT w/ contrast (it’s iodine based & water soluble so completely leaves the body) just to make sure there isn’t some carotid or jugular involvement. You’d still want to get the CT of the area between the skull base & hyoid bone w/ the hyoid included in the imaging.

If you need a second surgery, do you plan to go back to the surgeon who did your first operation?

Thank you for your answer to my question. I’ll send the recommendations to my primary doctor.

That’s good your PCP doctor wants to check if ES is the culprit! Occasionally the styloids can compress the carotid sinus area which can affect heart rate/ rhythm and BP…

I’m sorry for that. I recall you mentioning this in the past. Who did your styloidectomy initially? If (s)he is on our Doctors List, I’ll remove her/him.

Thank you. Looks like we took his name off. I do remember it being there in the past.
