Are you able to get a head and neck CT with contrast ordered? We won’t be able to assess what structures are causing the velocity changes without the CT. I know you’ve had a CT without contrast, but your really need one with contrast given that your symptoms are vascular in nature.

The ultrasound doesn’t help/ show anything? I could ask my primary care doctor for a ct with contrast

They aren’t stating where exactly along the carotids the velocity changes are occuring or what structures are causing the velocity changes. Could be soft tissues, could be styloids, could be hyoid, could by thyroid cartilage, could be a lot of things. Really need the CT with contrast so we can visually see what could be causing changes

Don’t be too shocked if the CT comes back as normal - radiologists seem to really be inconsistent when it comes to IJVs compression and they don’t seem to be overly knowledgeable about ES or hyoid bone syndrome or any other rare oddities of the neck. I highly suggest coming back here with your imaging and we will take a look!

And no worries!!
