Mr Axon? I would presume so, he only does one side at a time, but it might depend on how much compression there is, as some doctors consider as long as you have one IJV not compressed it’s enough…to be honest, I think most of our members have bilateral elongated styloids so it doesn’t come up very often! If you have other ‘classic’ ES symptoms, nerve pain, trouble swallowing etc then hopefully he’d be happy to do surgery to address those as well…

Thank you Veroguilnec,

This definitely lines up with what I have been quoted.

Thanks Jules,

Yes, it’s not a very well understood (unilateral IJVS) even with some of the top specialists.

I’ve only heard from a few people that had surgery and they only had one side affected. Their results were all outstanding.

My left side is blocked but the cranial nerves on my right side are affected. I’ve heard people in similar situations who had surgery and the cranial nerves on the opposite side of the surgery improved.

When I took diamox, I could equilise my right ear for the first time in decades - confirming the diagnosis. I’ve ruled out all other possible causes - CFS leak, CCI etc

Hi Bronte

I gotta follow up this question - can Diamox actually confirm the diagnosis of jugular vein compression/vascular eagle syndrome? :open_mouth:

I already had the diagnosis with CT Venogram. Also had a full MRI with dye to rule out CSF and had an upright MRI.

However some doctors don’t believe one side IJVS wouldn’t cause intercranial head pressure.

By taking diamox and having my cranial nerve function come back to normal (on the opposite side of the stenosis) confirmed theory that a blocked IJV on one side will cause congestion at the brainstem of the other side.

If it was a leak causing the issue, it would have made things worse.

I only came to this theory after hearing before and after stories of other people’s surgery that also had unilateral stenosis

@Bronte that’s really interesting, thanks for that info!
@IJVman Diamox helps some people, but not everyone with IJV compression, so isn’t necessarily reliable for a diagnosis, but you could ask to try it (there are other meds otherwise) to see if it helps…

I regret I didn’t try this earlier for sure. I’m pretty keen on booking an appointment for surgery soon…
