Do anxiety meds help you?

Anxiety is debilitating at times. It is hard to know what is from compression and can’t help (like my body is at war) and what is fear for the future and wondering if I’ll ever get there? So I’m wondering who has compression and is helped by anxiety meds? Much thanks

Two thoughts re: depression/anxiety - being in a state of constant pain + the symptoms IJV compression causes alone are anxiety producing. When you add the prospect of surgery & the unknowns that come with it, it’s like heaping burning coals on a smoldering fire. Anxiety/depression are common with ES.

Anti-depression/anti-anxiety meds or anti-seizure meds are the two categories of Rx meds used for nerve pain. If anxiety is among your symptoms, then an anti-anxiety med could help both nerve pain & anxiety. Many of our members who have jugular compression have benefitted from taking a blood thinner such as Plavix or Brilinta as it helps the the blood flow more easily through the compress area of the vein(s).

Have you talked to your doctor about prescribing a blood thinner &/or a nerve pain medication? The most common nerve pain meds mentioned here are amitriptyline, gabapentin & carbamazepine. Though I didn’t answer your question, I hope this info is helpful.

@JSwing Amitriptyline helped me with anxiety and trigeminal nerve pain. It is worth a try, and withdrawal symptoms were manageable. Only downside for me was weight gain, but I was happily fluffy😊.

I loved “happily fluffy”. What a great perspective @Catmd! I’m glad the meds helped to the extent you weren’t super upset about the weight gain. I hope it subsided once you were done with it.

I am unhappily fluffy, but not sure I can blame it on the Amitriptyline :joy: And it works very well with the nerve pain…
