Does anyone get frequent Swimmers Ear?

Hi all,
Something that I noticed is that I get severe swimmers ear in my left ear rather frequently, like every 3-6 weeks. I don’t swim, and have become religious in trying to not get water in my ears in the shower. The styloid on my left side is thicker and longer on the right side and am wondering if maybe it puts enough pressure to deform the ear canal area to hold in water that leads to the inflammation known as swimmers ear. Anyone else get this?

@Disabled_Inventor - When I searched swimmer’s ear on our forum I found at least one reference, but there may be more:

Another possibility is that you have a CSF leak that is draining fluid into your ear. It’s more common for CSF to drain down the back of the throat but into the ear can also happen under the right cirumstances. Here’s a link to an article explaining how that can happen:

Hi, I can’t say that anyone has seen inflammation in my ear but they have seen fluid behind the ear drum. I get frequent pain in both ears, but mainly the right, which is where I get the majority of my symptoms - jvc on the right. My right ear also leaks fluid of a night. I am being investigated for a leak but I’m not sure that is the cause. I have read a few cases, mainly on the Facebook group, of people having problems with their ears along side the their eagles symptoms. Not sure if that helps any

Not had swimmers ear, but certainly IJV compression causes a blocked ear feeling/ feeling of being underwater, that’s very common, the CSF leak sounds quite possible…

@Disabled_Inventor Also, the elevated pressure caused by IJV stenosis can directly impact the fluid in the middle ear (perilymph). Enough pressure over time can cause bony erosion in the inner ear and cause that fluid to leak as well.

Yes! I was also told I had surfer’s ear - I neither swim nor surf but get blocked ear/muffled, voice changes etc. this started many many years before the ear pain and finding of elongated styloids.
