Hi everyone! I just wanted to post an update that I have my consult with Dr. James K. Liu in New Jersey! I am being seen 4/28 @ 2:30! I’m very excited to officially have my next step in place. Now I pray he agrees to do the sugery
I don’t know why he wouldn’t, but I have (just like I’m sure so many of you as well) been dismissed by so may doctors I don’t think I’ll beleive it until I hear him say he’s doing the surgery. I have such anxiety around doctors appointment now. I will update after the appointment and let everyone know how it goes! I also want to thank everyone because without this site I would have never found Dr. Liu!!
Great that you have an appointment next week! I hope that it goes well and that he’ll help you- do you have someone who can go with you? Let us know how you get on

What is he doing for you? I’m scheduled to get c1 shaving on both sides and both styloidectomy’s from him in May.
@Jules thank you!! Yes, both of my parents are coming with me. I will definitely update as soon as I get home Tuesday! ![]()
@Burton35o so glad you got your sugery scheduled! I am going to my consult for a styloidectomy. I have very long styloids and a lot of symptoms. How was your experience with Dr. Liu so far? I’ve heard such good things.
Medical anxiety after years of dismissal is very real. Medical PTSD. I hope you hear the words that you’re able to get surgery. Fingers crossed for you. Hoping the very best for your appointment.
@VisibleEvidence aw thank you so much, that’s so sweet! And yes, it definitely is!!
I’m excited for you, @Emmaann! Can’t wait to hear how your appt with Dr. Liu goes! ![]()
Thank you so much @Isaiah_40_31 !!
@Burton35o & @Emmaann - In addition to the few stories about Dr. Liu on this forum, here’s one I just received in my email - EagleSyndrome.Net - Eagle Syndrome Awareness & Support.
eaglesyndrome.net is a newer ES forum started by Malvin Young, a Canadian, who had to travel to the US for his ES surgeries due to lack of available medical care in his own country.
Isaiah, you are so amazing and helpful. That articles helps ease my mind. Thank you so much for everything you do for this group. You help a lot of people
I’m very happy to be here for you, @Burton35o & am glad the article helped you feel more at peace. ![]()

@Gaby - How are you doing now?
Hi everyone
I’m sorry it’s been so long since I posted but honestly, since my appointment I have just been so depressed and feeling so sick. I thought this would be IT and he would understand everything I was saying. It’s probably just me because I always expect to be dismissed by doctors but because my styloids weren’t crazy long and I had no immeadiately seen compression I just felt defeated again. I guess I just wanted to hear: “these are coming out and you are finally going to get relief after 20 years.” However, Dr. Liu did order a cerebral angiogram with manometry that I had on 6/2.
These are those findings:
Of course I looked these results up in a million different ways and read everything possible and it looks like my symptoms are positional and that surgery will help. Now I am waiting on Dr Liu’s office to call to schedule my follow up to go over this. I’m so nervous. All I want is these bones out of me
Thank you everyone for keeping with with my story and I will post once I have my post procedure follow up. ![]()
I’m sorry that you’ve been down recently, it’s so hard battling the system when you’re feeling rough, & I remember well the anxiety about appointments when you’re desperate for someone to help you ![]()
I hope that Dr Lui agrees the surgery will help! ![]()
Thank you @Jules!! ![]()
