Insurance advice needed for syloidectomy w/Dr.Osborne

Hi all,

Last week I was diagnosed with Eagle Syndrome by Dr. Osborne, the answer to the torturous pain I’ve been experiencing for years. Last December, I lost my health insurance through my father’s employer after he suddenly passed in November. I was then able to enroll in insurance through my current employer to complete updated CT scans for Dr. Osborne to make the diagnosis.

At the end of this month, I’ll be leaving my current employer and won’t have health insurance anymore. This isn’t really a loss since the current insurance would have only covered about 16K of the surgery. I now need to choose a new health insurance plan and am in the process of seeing if I qualify for discounted PPO plans with Blue Shield or Healthnet through Covered California.

I’ve been made aware by my surgery coordinator that Dr. Osborne does not accept in network rates, even if my insurance made an exemption. From my understanding, it seems the best route is picking a PPO plan with the best out of network benefits and trying to see if I can negotiate fees with my insurance prior to the surgery.

For those who have had surgery with Dr. Osborne with a PPO plan, what advice would you give me about picking a plan and getting the best rate for my surgery?

Welcome to the site!
I’m UK so haven’t a clue with US insurances, I’m sorry for the loss of your father (if I understood that right from your other post), and I hope that you get some advice about the best insurance plan…
