@Max330 - If you can show your surgeon the annotated axial image @TML posted, it will make a more clear case for the need to have your left styloid removed above C1. “A picture is worth a thousand words.” as it’s said.
Your right styloid looks a little longer than normal to me, but the more important problem is the little downward curve at the end of it which could be causing some significant troubles w/o your right styloid being extra long.
Thank you all for your advice, I emailed the consultant to ask to review the CT and ask if excision above the c1 is possible with the TORs and he replied to say yes the tors can dissect above and release the compression.
He did say he’s still not convinced it with relive my dizziness on head rotation and episodes of vertigo I get at times.
But now that I know I definitely have IJV compression I no longer have second thoughts wether to have surgery or not, it’s made me 100% sure I need this surgery
So thanks again I’ll keep you all posted on a date and hopefully a good recovery.
Hi all that’s me had my surgery, left styloidectomy using tors and surgeon managed to take to skull base i’m delighted . Just starting day 2 and I feel great so far, no nerve damage or vascular damage and minimal swelling so far. I Managed bone broth the night of surgery and, smoothies soups and an ice latte yesterday, I feel a clicking in my throught when laying down swallowing which I’m hoping is just inflammation.
I already feel like have release of the tension in my neck and shoulder and trap muscle and feel like I can think clearer (this is with regular co-codamol and 4-6 hourly oramorph, iv steroids and antibiotics to name a few, which I’ll also go home with so feel like I’ve been in great hands. No tinnitus, pressure or sound sensitivity so far, I know it’s early days but here’s hoping when I’m up and about more I see more benefits from surgery).
I have had a great surgeon and team and have felt safe and that I can ask any questions or put any concerns at all across and although Eagles isn’t really diagnosed or understood here so the surgeon is still sceptical of the results. I feel very lucky to have been given the option to have this done, and if it’s successful and relieves my symptoms Mr Milner will hopefully be researching this more .
I can’t thank this group enough for all the tips and advice I’ve been a silent reader on here for a while now and you all really are a god send.
That’s fantastic news, so pleased for you! I hope that the improvements you’ve already noticed continue & that your pain isn’t too bad…I don’t know if they gave you any aftercare instructions but others who’ve had intra-oral surgery do a salt water rinse after eating to help avoid infection. Have you got much of an incision?
Hopefully you’ll be able to convince Mr Milner that the surgery is worth doing & he’ll be more aware of Es!
Thank you I’m home now and pain is at a minimal just on co codamol, he has told me to expect the pain to increase over the next couple of days, but I’m trying to remain positive. I have another couple of days of antibiotics to take to prevent any infections, But I will definelty do salt water rinses too.
I have a sutured incision which I can’t see how far it goes as my jaw cant fully open yet and my husband thinks there are 2 small open robot incisions but all feels well and hopefully heal in no time .
Yes here’s hoping . I will check in soon and update how recovery and symptoms are.
@Max330 really glad to hear the surgery went well - I’m glad they were able to remove the styloid up to the skull base because you really needed it. Your IJV, vagus nerve, and accessory nerve can finally breath. Fingers crossed for rapid healing!
Congratulations on having your surgery behind you, especially in a country where the surgery isn’t commonly done!
If your throat gets more sore over the next few days, try sucking on ice chips, freeze your latte in an ice cube tray & you can enjoy it while soothing your throat, though the iced version you had in the hospital can also be helpful. Fruit popsicles & iced tea can also be good. We’ve had a few members who said dairy caused phlegm in their throats which was uncomfy after intraoral surgery. You may not have a problem but just wanted to give you a heads up.
