Hi there, i am new to this group, and i am wondering if you can help me identifiying my styloid processes and if they look other than normal? I got a brief hint by my dentist, that they look other than normal. I am recently waiting for an appointment with my doctor to discuss the problem and maybe do a CT scan. I know that it certainly does not replace seeing a professional, but i might get a clue if there is more to investigate. Got to images, one opg, and side opg from the condyles. Thanks for your help
Hi & welcome!
I’ve sent you a message about info on the site etc… You can upload your images on here & we can take a look to give you a bit of an idea as to whether it’s worth looking into an ES diagnosis. And if you look in the Newbies Guide Section about common symptoms, you can see if your symptoms, whatever you have, match up. Here’s a link:

Hi @rubbyhaj1!
Welcome to our forum! I have annotated your scan & marked what looks like your styloid & calcified stylohyoid ligaments. I am not a doctor so please do not take this as a diagnosis for ES. Your right styloid is a bit thick but not as long as your left side. Both sides look to have some s-h ligament calcification separate & below the styloids.
I hope if someone else sees this differently they will share their perspective about what is seen in your pano x-ray scan.
I hope you’re able to get in to see a doctor who is familiar w/ ES soon.
I’m not able to annotate your scan images, but it does look like from your first image that your styloids could well be a little longer than average, then there’s a small gap and it looks like there’s a section of calcified stylo-hyoid ligament each side.
A CT of the head and neck, from the base of the skull to the hyoid bone would be a good idea & would hopefully show them clearer. It’s worth looking into if your symptoms fit with Eagles ones
I forgot to post the annotated image.
@Jules & I see the same things.
Thank you very much for showing me!! I a currently trying to get an appointment for CT scan for further diagnosis
@Isaiah_40_31 @Jules . I just deep dived in my archives, when i first had the symptoms 4 years back, they already did a ct, so i threw them in the dicom viewer, this looks like a the calfied ligament right?
Oh yes, they’re clearly visible on the CT from back then! Well done finding those images…the styloids look a bit longer than average to me, & then there’s a section of calcified stylo-hyoid ligament below them.
So frustrating that they showed up on your CT back then & that you’ve had symptoms for 4 years!
I agree that your 3D renderings confirm what we saw in the CBCT scan you posted initially. Now you can actually see those spikes in 3D which makes them look more menacing, I think!!
