Online it says there is a list of surgeons that perform styloidectomy’s. I have yet to see that list, nor do I find a link to go directly to said list. The female surgeon I was seeing moved to Las Vegas, right before I was to have surgery and right before I correctly diagnosed my own blood clot that my PCP missed. I need to find an “experienced” female styloidectomy surgeon. I have acute PTSD after being sexually assaulted by a male surgeon and I am a female ONLY provider, patient, at all levels. Trying to find one close to Oregon.

So sorry that your last doctor moved away, and I totally understand that you need a female doctor. There is one in Portland, here’s the link we have for her:
Sunshine Marie Dwojak, MD, MPH - Head & Neck Surgery | Kaiser Permanente
You can use the search function to look up past discussions about members who have seen her, here’s a link to one:
Surgery done. Jan 18, 2022 - General - Living with Eagle
We also have a section about surgery in the Newbies Guide category, there’ suggested questions which you can ask a doctor, here’s a link to that:
ES Information- Treatment: Surgery - Welcome / Newbies Guide to Eagle Syndrome - Living with Eagle
Hope she’s able to help you!
There is a very experienced female ES surgeon in Texas, too, Dr. Chan Leveno. Not as close as Dr. Dwojack. The TX doctor is not a Kaiser doctor which gives you more flexibility with your medical insurance if you don’t have Kaiser.
Dr. Chan Leveno is on our Doctors List (which is under the Symptoms and Treatments category as Doctor Information - for future reference.)
Thank you, but Texas is way too far to travel when on limited funds. I am tried of choking on my food, and recently I have bern aspirating even on soft foods, which leads to aspiration pneumonia. Sigh.
All the very best x
@fantasia86, I had choking problems as part of my ES symptoms. I had to have the Heimlich Maneuver done twice. Choking is very scary so I am sorry you’re dealing with that as one of your symptoms. I will pray you don’t get aspiration pneumonia & that Dr. Dwojak (who goes by Dr. Sunshine as I recall) will be willing to see you.
So sorry that you’re choking like that, worrying for you, I hope you can get to see the doctor quickly!
Thank you.
Unfortunately, I am now being treated for aspiration pneumonia.
I don’t understand why more ENT’s aren’t being taught about ES. It’s unacceptable the numbers of them that have never heard of it and therefore do not have experience in the surgery some of us need to survive.
I’m so sorry you ended up w/ aspiration pneumonia, @fantasia86. I hope the antibiotics help you recovery quickly.
Have you been able to contact Dr. Dwojak yet?
We totally agree that it’s just not right doctors aren’t taught about ES! It’s because ES is a supposedly rare condition so is barely mentioned in medical school, but we feel it’s not that rare, but that people aren’t getting diagnosed when they have obvious symptoms! It’s interesting that we’re seeing more & more people here with ES, because people can use Google etc to search out answers for themselves! Hopefully the word will spread, there are lots more research papers being written now
And hope that you get over this bout of pneumonia soon
