My 18 year old daughter will have surgery with Dr. Costantino in Sept. For those who have had jugular vein compression with Dr. Costantino, what medications does he use pre and post surgery? She is very sensitive to a lot of things (as many of us are), and I wanted to have an idea of what to expect so I can do some research on each med before hand. Thank you!

Hi, I had two surgeries with Dr. C last year and as far as I can remember, I didn’t have anything post-op other than Flexeril, Oxy (used for 1-3 weeks) & an antibiotic (Bactrim) for the first few days. The Flexeril did seem to help with some of the muscle pain/issues post op, and to be honest, the first 7-10 days were really tough both times. However, thing do improve pretty quickly after (relative to the first week), and I would absolutely pick Dr. C again, he’s great. I only needed the stronger pain meds for the first 3-7 days and then moved to Tylenol with the muscle relaxer.
The only other thing I did was relay my MCAS(ish) issues to the anesthesiology teams (had one at Stamford and the other at Northern Westchester), and both times they were on-top of giving me both famotidine and Benadryl intra-operatively.

They did give me Zofran in the hospital in/around my op time. As far as Dr. C went, his PA managed my oxy & muscle relaxer, and the hospital did the rest. I would definetly bring up any other medication concerns/questions at your pre-op with the hospital that your daughter will be having the procedure at

Which medications are prescribed & how they are administered seems to vary from doctor to doctor & patient to patient. It’s interesting that you received yours via injection post op. In the US, I believe most doctors give oral prescriptions to be taken as needed over the course of a week or two post op.
