New Member/Help interpreting scans please!

Hi!

I only recently came to the realization that a lot of what I may be experiencing could be due to ES or HBS. I got a tonsillectomy back in 2020. I feel like certain symptoms have slowly worsened since then, but I’m entirely unsure of if I’m right about the link. I’ve had a lot of vascular symptoms as well as pain. I feel a pronounced bone like feeling in my throat and soreness that is definitely new in last year or two. I would love anyone’s opinion or help on interpreting my 3D scans and seeing if I am off base or on the right track here. How do I upload them? I tried to add them in a file or media and it won’t let me.

Thank you in advance for the help, I appreciate this community so much!

Hi rachels & welcome to the site!
The site has a feature so that new members can’t upload images as soon as you join but have a go now, you should be able to :crossed_fingers:

Thank you Jules!

I will attach my scans.

Hi @rachels! Welcome to this forum. Unfortunately, I can’t see your styloids or hyoid bone in any of the images you posted. In the one picture of the skull, the position is wrong as the mandible blocks the view of the skull base & potentially the hyoid though I think the image cuts off above the hyoid.

Here’s an example of a 3D image that would be more helpful:

Hi Isaiah!

What scan do I get to look at the styloid like that? The Eagle Syndrome Facebook group said my styloid did not show as elongated or calcified, so I’m confused at what they were referring to on my scans then!

Thank you!

I’m sorry @rachels , I did delete them to protect your privacy as your full name was on the scan images…
If you can remember the order you posted them in, the last image which was a front on x-ray by the looks of it did have 2 lines inside of the mandible which could possibly have been styloids, but I agree with @Isaiah_40_31 that it was hard to see in other images whether there was any elongation or not. The image she’s posted would be from a CT .
With some members’ scans the imaging is done so that the mandible (jaw bone) is removed from the image so the styloids can be seen better behind it, but I’m not sure if members have done that tinkering about with one of the programs or if the radiology dept did it- I am rubbish with technology so can’t help with that…there are some links to software programs members have used:

If you’re able to remove your name from the images you posted, feel free to re-post them so others can have a look, sorry for all the hassle!

Hi! Here are my images reposted with no name. Let me know what you think! I thought that was the styloid process and ligament in the circled one.

The circled area could be your styloid but it looks like it’s only a partial view so there really isn’t a way to tell if it’s elongated or not. Many of us have uploaded our images to dicomlibrary.com. That site anonymizes the images & puts them into 3D format, then gives you a link to share w/ others. Seeing the 3D images isn’t totally straight forward though & I suffer from the same problem as @Jules - I’m not very techy so I had to have someone help me find my 3D images after having dicomlibrary.com convert them. The image above was one of four 3D images provided by the radiology lab when I had my diagnostic CT done.

Also, if you have a Mac, the best 3D conversion software is an app called BeeDicomViewer - ‎Bee DICOM Viewer on the Mac App Store

I agree with @Isaiah_40_31 , that would be your styloid I believe, but can’t say how long it is, I’m sorry!
