Opinion on eagles diagnosis

You were quicker to post than I was to send my welcome email :joy:. I suggested there based on your lack note about symptoms that you might have IJV compression because of the nature of your neck injuries, but I’d say from the information you just posted, that is not among the causes of your symptoms. It sounds like your symptoms are nerve related.

Most of the symptoms you’ve listed are among those we have seen with an ES diagnosis. No two people have the same ES symptoms set. We have members who’ve had larynx, hyoid & styloid issues all operating to cause the array of symptoms they’ve had though it’s been a while since any of them were on the forum. As your ENT suggested, the laryngeal hypersensitivity & swallowing challenges could be aggravating each other. Swallowing issues are common w/ ES & are caused by a couple of nerves - the glossopharyngeal & vagus. The hypoglossal & glossopharyngeal nerves both affect tongue function & the GPN can contribute to burning in the mouth. Your facial spasms are most likely being caused by your facial nerve being irritated though the trigeminal nerve could also be involved depending on where the spasms are occurring. The tightness/constriction under your chin is very possibly from your digastric muscles as you suggested. They also play a major role in swallowing. I had trouble from mine from ES.

Dr. Osborne would be a good choice with the challenges you have, but Dr. Cognetti in Philadelphia, PA & Dr. Hackman in Chapel Hill, NC, are both very experienced with ES + hyoid bone & possibly larynx surgical work. Both do telehealth consults so you wouldn’t need to travel initially to see them.
