Has anyone used pentoxifylline (brand name Trental) for tinnitus? How did it help?
I have had bilateral styloidectomies and my tinnitus is still very strong. My surgeon said we can discuss this med at my next post op visit as it can be successful. I’m not having luck finding stories of its use for tinnitus. Thank you
I’ve not heard of that on here I don’t think, will be interested to hear how you get on…thinking of you, it’s rough to have that so loud
There is one poster here who just had a version of the Ciss MRI scan. It showed an artery pressing up against the ear nerve (if I remember all of this correctly)
So although we may hope Styloid surgery will be the cure all it may be in some (or most) people there are other factors.
One of the places I go when I want to get information is reddit just to get a feel for what others have to say.
You will find info there about ear ringing and this drug as well as some of it’s other uses.
We actually have two members who’ve had this situation. The one I most clearly recall did have a FIESTA MRI which showed a tiny artery pressed up against his vestibulocochlear nerve which is one of the nerves that participates in causing tinnitus. I don’t know if there is microvascular surgery that can take care of that scenario, but as you noted, @JugularEagle, it would be worth getting the scan to see if something like that is going on @Nikkimm. Treating symptoms w/ medications is often only a bandaid rather than finding & dealing w/ the cause.
