I’m so glad that you’ve had surgery and are able to get up and about already! That’s great to hear… Swelling can get worse with time, days 3-5 are the worst so be prepared that things may go backwards a bit… praying that all goes well :folded_hands:

Fingers crossed! I am getting antibiotics with my painkillers too, so I think things are well under wraps. Furthermore, Dr. Kamran wants me to stay acive and walking. I wonder if this helps.

I am also on the phone with @Lenaj who recommends icebags.

Hope you have a easy recovery!!

Other members who’ve had surgery with him have said he wants patients to keep walking even if it’s hard as this helps with recovery. Icing definitely helps with swelling, wrap the ice pack in a towel though & keep it off the incision…

Gonna buy a bag of frozen peas close to my hotel, if we can’t find any. :face_with_tongue:

Hooray ! Surgery is behind you, @Rehri! It sounds like it went very well. As @Jules said, pain & swelling can ramp up over the next few days. Going forward, on days you feel good, try to be careful not to do too much. It will take a couple of months for your body to be ready to start up normal activities with full energy. In the meantime, easing in to doing things will help keep your pain at a lower level while you recover.

That is wonderful to hear - I am nervous - I think it’s because my last surgery was unsuccessful and I’m so hopeful that Dr Aghayev can help. Do you have tinnitus and has it changed at all? That’s my biggest worry as it prevents me sleeping and I’m guessing will affect healing . I’m so glad it has gone well for you :hibiscus:

My tinnitus hasn’t changed, and I don’t really expect it to.

I have had three tympanoplastic surgeries before this myself, so my tinnitus stems from that.

@Rehri - I also have tinnitus from an inner ear surgery which caused a form of dehiscence. I’m still exploring whether a bone patch might calm it down a bit. I’m sorry you’re stuck with permanent tinnitus, too.

My bad ear is reacting to the swelling too. I reckon it is just my eutacian tube experiencing pressure from the neck swelling. I luckily have a perforated eardrum to let any pressure out.

Dr. Kamran sent me to the hotel just in case too.

It is now day 3 after surgery.

You’ll be around peak swelling time now, so hopefully this will improve soon…can you eat okay?
Praying for you :folded_hands:

Haha, I can’t.

I feel like food is getting stuck in my throat all the time, and I am currently the nr.1 yoghurt eater in Istanbul.

Ah, I’m sorry that you have that, it’s very common though. I think it was a week-10days before I could eat normally, I managed to make up some interesting & nutritious smoothies, but that’s hard in a foreign country & in a hotel…I don’t know if you can buy any of the meal replacement drinks/ protein shakes? I hope this improves soon :folded_hands:

@Rehri I had some swallowing difficulties after my second surgery likely due to some of the necessary muscle lysing. I had been through myofunctional therapy previously and used some of those exercises to retrain the tongue and swallowing muscles to move properly to push food down the throat. It worked really well. You could try searching for some YouTube videos of myofunctional exercises and see if it helps. Particularly ones that focus on the posterior tongue (or the base of the tongue). Wishing you the best!

I am the king of Yoghurt over here.

You definitely made me laugh, Rehri! I love your attitude! I hope there are lots of good yogurt flavors there in Istanbul so you’re not stuck eating the same one over & over! Your worst swelling should start subsiding soon so hopefully you’ll be able to eat something more substantial than yogurt before you head back home.
