Posting on the off chance some amazing ENT surgeon has appeared out of nowhere?

I’ve posted on here various times over the past 7 or so years regarding swallowing issues seemingly stemming from the larynx / hyoid. I had two surgeries that were a waste of time and a mistake and didn’t help my swallowing at all. My throat is a bad as every, I struggle to get food down at times, my larynx just seems tethered and can’t elevate properly, you can also see the thyroid cartilage is right against/touching the hyoid bone at the front right. I have sleep apnea now too and generally getting air in feels a challenge day and night.

Anyone worth seeing? Ideally in the UK but even if I have to travel. I’m pretty hopeless at this point. My life is pretty much stuck at home barely able to do anything other than one short walk a day if I’ve managed to get some half decent sleep.

I’m sorry but we still don’t have any doctors that deal with thyroid cartilage/clicking larynx & hyoid bone syndromes in the UK. There are some options in the US if you can travel that far & it’s possible Dr. Aghayev in Turkey (a less expensive option for surgery) might be worth consulting though I don’t know if he does either of those surgeries).

US doctors who do surgeries for thyroid cartilage/clicking larynx syndrome & HBS are

Dr. Dewan in Louisiana - specializes in clicking larynx/hbs but hasn’t been responsive to internal patients’ requests for a consult.

Dr. Cognetti in Pennsylvania

Dr. Chhetri & Dr. Burke both in California at UCLA Medical Center

Dr. Andrew Vahabzadeh-Hagh in San Diego at UCSD Medical Center

Dr. Philip Weissbrod in San Diego at UCSD Medical Center who specializes in airway, voice, & swallowing

Here’s a link to the post where some of these names are mentioned:

I’m so sorry that you’re still struggling & that you’ve not gotten any improvement with your surgeries…it’s really tough…
I don’t know if it’s worth contacting either of the UK support charities to ask if they know anything about thyroid cartilage removal? Obviously they’re more about hypo/hyperthyroidism but they might know of surgeons? It seems that thyroid gland surgery itself is fairly rare so there might be some doctors they know of that you could try?
Sending you a hug :hugs: :hugs:

The ENT that did my clicking larynx surgery is actually an expert in sleep apnoea! But yet again, Australia is so far away…
