I had an appointment today for a steroid and pain relief injection for my classic eagles. After trying all different angles with the ultrasound doppler they decided not to proceed. I am now in so much pain from them pushing around on my neck. Not only did I not get pain releif but it has caused a huge flare up. Has anyone else experienced this? Feeling very low.

I’m sorry that this has caused you extra pain, and no injection either! It is common to have pain flare ups after being examined, poked & prodded on your neck, they’ve probably pushed on the styloids and inflamed nerves.
The best things to try are the usual pain relief suggestions, like trying heat or ice, lidocaine gel or patches if you can get any… Hopefully this will settle down soon, if not it’s worth trying a nerve pain medication or possibly a short course of steroids.

Agree, see if a provider will dispense a Medrol pak, steroids often help with the inflammation/pain.

Thank you I feel very alone and in horrible pain with this so your reply means a lot. I’ll try the patches. I wont see the specliast who ordered it until Thursday and it really isnt an emergency so dont have anyone to ask (its a weekend here)

I am so sorry you are experiencing this!! Before I ever heard about Eagles, they did a thyroid ultrasound & neck lymph nodes on my right (what I now know is my Eagles symptomatic) side. I was in so much pain after the ultrasound for several days! I am so sorry it happened to you too.

Resting is a good weapon against pain along with icing your neck for 20 min every couple of hours. Use a thin towel between ice pack & skin to prevent ice burns. As @Jules said, if ice makes your pain worse, try heat. Moist heat sometime helps more than dry heat. In the US gel packs that can be frozen or heated can be purchased at local pharmacies. Gel packs are also good because they conform to the shape of the neck better than bags of ice do. If you buy a gel pack that can be heated, when it’s hot you can wrap a wet washcloth around it to provide moist heat for your neck.
