What are typical after effects, if any, after a venogram?

My daughter is scheduled to have a venogram AND a lumbar puncture by Dr. Mehta on Monday morning. After a lumbar puncture most people get headaches so they have to lie flat for a couple of hours. My question is what are the most typical after effects of a venogram and what are the most concerning after effects of a venogram to watch for?

I had an angio/venogram & ended up w/ visual migraines after the procedure. I’ve never had a migraine prior to that nor have I since. I believe it was my body’s response to the contrast as they stopped after 4-5 days - probably the length of time it took for the contrast to exit my body. I don’t know of anyone else who’s had that reaction. Headaches are the typical response to both venograms & lumbar punctures.

Because the venograms are done via catheter, it is necessary to lie flat for several hours after the procedure so the vein in the groin can seal up.

I was told to drink coffee after the angio/venogram. I did, and I did not have any after-effects. I can’t say it was the coffee, but ….who knows?

@WorriedMom I didn’t have any after effects from the procedure other than a lump in my groin (the Angio-Seal) which lasted for a few months as it slowly dissolved. Best wishes to you.

I don’t know if @RobotEagle 's info would be helpful, here’s a link where he gives some details about the venogram:

I hope that her procedures go well and show enough for Dr Nakaji to agree to surgery :folded_hands: :hugs:
