Hello Everyone! I recently found this site. I think I have Eagle Syndrome, very similar symptoms (pain in the lower part of the jaw on both sides, goes to the throat, and on the right side the pain reaches the ear). I have been to several doctors, at the moment the cause of the pain has not been established, the ENT said that I need a dental surgeon, the dental surgeon said that he could not help. The CT report did not find anything, but in the description there is something about calcification; an MRI was also prescribed, but the insurance refused to allow the examination. Tell me a few questions: 1. Do doctors who know Eagle Syndrome work with Medical/Medicaid insurance? 2. Are there any doctors who know Eagle Syndrome in Sacramento (not Kaiser insurance) or nearby?
Sorry for my bad English, I’m using Google Translator.
Hi Int54,
Welcome to our forum! The translator did well communicating your story & questions. I’m very sorry you have possible ES symptoms & have gotten no answers. If your CT scan shows your styloid processed (they are in the area between your skull base & hyoid bone), it is better for diagnosing ES. Since MRIs are more for soft tissue viewing, sometimes the styloids are hidden behind the blood vessels & muscles in the neck & can’t be seen well.
There is a doctor in Norther CA who most likely takes Medical/Medicaid as he is part of the UC Davis Medical Health System,
Here is his name & contact information:
•Kaicheng Lawrence Yen, MD, UC Davis Health Department of Otolaryngology, 2521 Stockton

Please let us know if you have more questions.
Before seeing this docs name, I was going to suggest paying out of pocket for a consultation with an Eagles experienced doctor ($4-600+?). You can then fight medicaid to refer you out of medicaid system with that report. It wont be easy but an alternative route as medicaid is really difficult to get proper care for complex and rare type medical issues.
