Nearly 3 weeks out and things are going very well. Nearly all the post-operative symptoms are gone. I’m still a little numb in the area between my jawline and the incision site. The headache had been the worst symptom and is now gone. Dr. Nakaji felt that it was occipital nerve irritation from tugging on the muscles.
In terms of the VES symptoms, I don’t feel so exhausted when I wake up in the morning, there is a noticeable decrease in head pressure and pressure behind the left eye and I generally feel more like my old self as it relates to my ability to think clearly, feel some energy and interest in things again and my appetite has come back. I still have a feeling of pressure behind the right eye, right-sided pulsatile tinnitus and eustachian tube dysfunction and I’m still dizzy, although less dizzy. I’m scheduled to have the right side done on October 14th.
I have filed an appeal with my insurance company. They denied coverage at the last moment because they believe that any neurosurgeon in my plan could have done the surgery. I wrote a letter explaining why this is not true and Dr. Nakaji is doing the same. @vap let me know that Dr. Costantino’s office uses something called a gap exception to get insurance payment for out-of-state people. I let Dr. Nakaji’s biller know tis and they filed for that as well. Fingers crossed that something good happens!
