We’re trying to determine at which facility I might have more success getting a second opinion and potentially a styloidectomy. I know there are doctors from both Cleveland Clinic and OSU on our experienced doctors list, but I’m just looking for a little more information that might help me decide which one to go to…Thanks for any insight you can provide!
Hi - I had my second (of four) styloidectomy at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. It wasn't a very positive experience. To me it seemed like they didn't have very good knowledge of Eagles. For example, they didn't believe that there was such a thing as vascular Eagles. They also told me that because I was still having some pain after my first surgery on my left side it meant I didn't really have Eagles. It turned out that I still had calcified styloid on my left side that the first doctor didn't get - he just broke off the tip - which is why I was still having pain.
The doctor I saw at CC sent me for all kind of tests, but everything was normal except for my styloid. But he refused to see me again and after I persisted, referred me to another surgeon who had never done an Eagles surgery before. I had the surgery and it definitely helped the vascular Eagles symptoms, but that was by far the most painful Eagles surgery recovery I've had. With my 3 other eagles surgeries, I've gone back to work after about 2 weeks and felt pretty good. But I was in so much pain after the CC surgery that I couldn't go back to work for 3-4 months and even then I had a hard time working.
Thanks, heidemt, for your feedback. I'm disappointed for you and your experience at CC. I hope your 3rd & 4th surgeries brought you some comfort and relief.
