I want to thank those that reached out about my Daughter and my Generalized Question Post.. my Brain has been on complete overload with her healing, my last few days of work, trying to deal with putting in a Leave of Absence so that I can put in for my Short Term Disability (which they definitely dont make it easy), booking my Flight, and my Hotel, trying to figure out what is going to be the cheapest way to get around while in town, all while trying to not worry about my Kids while I wont be in town.. I have never been away from my Kids like this.. soooo, to say that my stress is just out of this World is a complete understatement, and that is about LIFE in general.. not even considering the Surgery in itself!!! With that being said, I am flying in on Sunday and staying at a Beautiful AirBNB on a Creek with some Nature Scenery to just kind of sit and collect my thoughts before my Surgery on Monday.. my Flight Home is Wednesday Afternoon.. what should I pack with me?? PLEASE HELP!!!
Also, my Daughter is doing great!! Day 6-10 were rough!! She ended up having to use the Liquid Hydrocodone that he Prescribed because of the pain in/behind her ears and she is still feeling like shes being stabbed under the right side of her Jaw… aside from that, shes back to her sassy self
Thank you foe the positive thoughts!!
Such a stressful time for you with everything going on & so much to organise! I’m glad that your daughter is on the mend & hope that she keeps doing well! Definitely pack ice packs, maybe some kind of neck cushion for the flight home (hopefully others who’ve flown after surgery can give you some advice on that.) There have been several mentions on here about having ice packs on the plane so have a look for that. Obviously as you’re flying back soon afterwards you can’t take anything with you to prepare food, but maybe if you can get some shakes or protein powder to bring for afterwards in case you can’t chew well? You can search for the surgery shopping list for what to get ready but obvs you’ve been through it before so probably know all that…
Will be praying for you and hope that this surgery works out well for you, hugs as well

First off, great news about how well your daughter is healing! Tonsillectomies are definitely no fun especially once we get older. I had mine at age 4. I remember the nurse offering me ice cream in the hospital, & it felt really good going down. I asked for 7-up, & the nurse told me I wouldn’t like it because it would hurt my throat, but I insisted so she brought some, & by golly, the bubbles hurt my throat, & I couldn’t drink it. ![]()
I’m so glad you found a nice place to stay. I am a fan of Air BnBs myself & have stayed in many over the past few years.
What to pack besides clothes & toiletries will depend somewhat on how many carry ons the airline you’re taking allows. I just had experience checking a wedge pillow on SW Airlines. They allow passengers to check 2 bags so I had a carry-on plus the checked wedge pillow (it was wrapped in 3 trash bags for protection). That is to say, if you can take a wedge pillow, it will be helpful for you post op. Gel ice packs w/ removable covers (CVS sells these) - 2-3 small size, so they wrap easily around your neck, are a good idea but will have to be put in checked baggage (I lost some at a TSA check point because I didn’t think about the gel being a possible weapon ingredient). Extra strength Tylenol (in case the Rx pain meds don’t agree w you or you decide not to take it) is a good idea, as well. Beyond those things, plan to pick up some soft foods/pre-made smoothies/water (in case the tap water is
), etc. It’s also wise to order a wheelchair to help you get through the airport post op plus that will expedite your trip to the departure gate.
Those are the basics so I expect others may share what they found useful.
