So i have tried to search to find maybe a list of important things after surgery to have and im not really finding post on it. If someone knows of one please let me know… but i will be traveling out of state for surgery and putting together my “packing list” i have a pre made bag which has the normal, but since this isnt a normal trip i am looking for suggestions of what maybe helpful to bring with me. So far my list consists of:
Button down shirt/dress/night gowns
That is all i have l… and i know theres got to be more then that! Please let me know what you would take!! And since im a little emotional feel free to add some funnies in there
Edit to add. Of course after i post this i see related post which have been super helpful
@Deemarie - I can’t find your surgery date on my calendar. When are you having your surgery & with whom? I’ll put you on it so I can pray for you then.
I don’t know if this is the post you found, but it’s pretty thorough:
The only thing I’d disagree with is the Mederma which you won’t need until your incision is pretty well healed.
We recommend having soft foods you enjoy handy because you will have a sore throat & you may have a sore jaw for a week or two post op. Hot cereals, soups, smoothies w/ protein powder, fruit & veggie sauces, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, yogurt, etc. Popsicles or ice chips are soothing for a sore throat.
You can take pull over shirts/pjs if the neck opening is loose. I wore pull over t-shirts w/o a problem after surgery.
Bring anything with you that will help your home-away-from-home feel more like home (Teddy bear, cuddly blanket, fuzzy slippers…). My family accuses me of having an accidental sense of humor so I’m sorry I’m not good at being funny Hopefully someone with a more active “funny bone” than mine will contribute some light humor here.
@Deemarie - It’s coming up FAST! Are you having both sides done or just one?
Your surgery is on my calendar now. We have another member @vcp02 who’s having surgery w/ Dr. Osborne on Wed.
Great news that your surgery is soon! How will you be travelling, some members have posted helpful info about getting through airports & flying if you need it?
The constipation remedy is pretty important- we’ve had a few members forget that & have been very badly bunged up with taking pain meds!
Best wishes & praying for a successful surgery
Hi! I am glad you are getting surgery soon! Praying all goes well. I agree with all of the suggestions posted. Keep in mind that everyone’s recovery is different and you may or may not experience things in the same order. Sleeping upright the first week is key and very hard to find a good position. Ice is great, as well as having pain meds nearby. I used Tylenol
Powder packs so it was easier to swallow. My throat was swollen from anesthesia which made it challenging the first several days. Once your stitches are out you can use a silicone scar sheet to help aid in the healing process. It will flatten the scar over time. My doc suggested 8 weeks and I have noticed great results!! All the best!
