Eagles Syndrome Poster

Hey all!

A while back I posted for some stories/pictures that anyone could contribute to my poster project for my anatomy and physiology class. I got a few responses and I promised to post my finished product when I was done. I had finished about a month ago, I'm still pretty busy working on my BS in Biochemistry but here it is! Enjoy :) I was the only one that got 100% on their poster in class.

You guys are awesome and amazing, sharing your stories of discovery, pain and surgeries. I hope to one day get mine removed... for right now I'm too terrified.

If anyone wants my information in a word document I have that available with a full bibliography.

-June

The bottom CT scans were little flip books people could see the progression of they styloid process. Mine is on the left.

Wonderful, so glad that you got a 100% on this, and hope that many people have learned through you.

That really looks great! Good job !

Looks great and Thank You for considering Eagle’s syndrome as your project. I hope you didn’t get too flared up from the project! I bet the professors and students will be interested to learn more about Eagle’s syndrome.

Yes my professor was very interested in my topic, she had never heard of it. She really enjoyed the fact I have 'first hand experience' in it and that I found enough information to fill my poster up. At first I was doubtful I'd find enough, my initial research when I first was diagnosed was limited but with the universities connections to millions of scientific journals I was able to find some great stuff.

just saw your board,

pretty cool, I have several pictures just like that, when I finally found out what I had going on, I went on a similar mission to find out as much as I could. downloaded lots of picts, videos and articles.

it was not until much later I found this group, it does help to find out that you are not crazy (like some of the doctors try to make you think) and, really important, you are not alone.

I had my fangs removed may 31 2012 (right) and july 8 (left). extraoral surgery cutting in the middle of the neck,

it was one of the best things I could have done,

your post above said that you have not had them removed because you are terrified.

don't be, make sure you have a good doctor, there are several on here that people are happy with, my doc was david cognetti in philly, I didn't like the flights from stlouis to philly but It was well worth it.

dr cognetti and his team were fantastic. I knew what I wanted from him, and I could tell he had the confidence and skill to take care of the problem. I cant say enough about how they took care of me out there.

I am now 8+ months out and I have not felt this good since 1999 when the headaches started.

don't waste your time suffering if you don't need to ......

Thank you for this :) I will have a break in school next year for 2 months... maybe I should utilize that time to get 'fixed'... I just have terrible nightmares of not making it. The 3 ENT's I spoke with about surgery said they wouldn't touch it... from the looks of the CT scan, my temporal vein is very close, if not almost connected and it's too much of a risk.

I am so tired of my ears hurting... I've been living with ear pain my whole life. And the ringing... I've never known silence.

Are there any doctors near Oregon? I think I saw on here once there's a good doctor in Seattle, I'm willing to drive there.

Thank you again for your encouraging words!

don't know about doc's in your area,

docs in my area sucked,

cognetti in philly is the bomb

don't worry about not making it through the procedure, these guys got you covered,

as for the ringing, I know where you are coming from, had that all my life, the styloid removals did not take it away, don't count on it if you go in,

I remember going in to the doctor for the ringing when I was about 8, (circa 1970), his cure was a really big metal syringe full of water, stick the thing in the ear canal and pump the water in, refill and repeat,,,,, it only took about 5 visits for me to decide and declare I was healed,,,,,, the only way I could make the torcher end was to say my ears were not ringing anymore...... I lied, the ringing is still here some 40+ years later, but the water torcher stopped,

you can learn to deal with the noise,,, I run a fan next to my bed all year to drown it out....

like is said in other posts, I didn't like the trips to philly to see doctor cognetti, but it was the best money I have ever spent, he can do the job and make you feel at ease about it

I would really appreciate a copy of your info in a word document. I just joined this site. Do I need to send you my email address? Thanks much in advance.

Sure just message me your email and I'll shoot it over. It's not laid out in any sort of proper format but it's useful information and everything that was used on the poster.

June I think you should send a copy of this to Scott Orn and to dancermom. The nonprofit is trying to get information out and publicity out. I believe a Pdf of your work and a special outreach to Scott Orn and to dancermom would be awesome.

You can friend Scott Orn and dancermom. Scott Orn is one of the originators of Bens friends and dancermom is our moderator. You can friend one of them. This is a very important concise story of our troubles and I hope we can get some interest in our disease from your work, if you would be interested.

Yes, please, June, I would like the word document of your project. Excellent job! I will message you my email.

This is really excellent! Emma told me to check it out and I'm grateful.

Wonderful job June. How can we help you publicize your work more?

Scott, Thanks!

I'm not sure, I have sent a few people, already, a PDF file of all the text used on my poster and my annotated bibliography. You may use the information but do note that I am not a doctor nor have I completed my masters so my work is not peer reviewed, it is only my interpretation of the information I gathered from the universities academic journal access. When quoting and utilizing information, specially from the internet, it is important to make sure what you gather is peer reviewed. In the academic and scientific community, peer reviewed information is the most reliable.

If you wish, I can email you all the PDF files I have. I can also get you any of the articles you wish to review if you are unable to access them yourself. Most the articles are available if you are affiliated with a university, otherwise you might have to pay to view them. Another thing I can do is take a high resolution image of my poster and send that as well. I will probably be using the poster again in another class.

Thanks June. I was trying to brainstorm ways for your fine work to get more coverage. One thing you might want to do is do a quick blog search and write to any bloggers about your research.

I think this is really special work and just want as many people to see it as possible.

That is wonderful!!!! It looks beautiful, you worked very hard, I know that you didn't feel well sometimes either, but that is well worth 100%

When I'm finished with my current term of school I'll have some time off, I will definitely google some blogs and share :) You may share as well if there is anyone you wish to see the information. Just let me know if it's a particular blog or anything so I can check it out too :)
