I had surgery with Cognetti!

On Friday April 10th, I had my left side styloidectomy with Dr. Cognetti. He said it was crushing into my spine so I’m concerned we should’ve done a c1 shave, but Ill discuss this at post op. Not sure if the IJV was involved where it was crushed against the spine or not. I was too out of it to ask.

Everyone was really nice and great and the surgery went smoothly. I immediately noticed that even though swallowing was painful, that it didnt feel like there was something getting caught or snagged when I swallowed. So that was immediate relief. I havent been nauseous yet but I also havent moved around or talked much so time will tell. My intracranial symptoms ramped up a tiny bit but nothing like I was expecting (I’m on diamox so it’s at a lower baseline than without it). Anyway, it’s a little painful but really not too bad so I feel lucky. Im not noticing any adverse effects so I’m feeling pretty good about it so far.

This thing was THICK!

I’m pleased that you’re through surgery , that’s a pretty chunky styloid so much better out than in! I hope that you’ll see improvements as the swelling goes down…are you able to eat or is it soft foods/ smoothies only? Take care, keep icing & keep propped up, thinking of you and praying for good results :folded_hands: :hugs: :bouquet:

I’ve been sticking to soft foods like soups and scrambled eggs but even in two day, I noticed the pain going down alot but I don’t want to overdo it too soon. Taking it slow and cautious! Thank you for the supportive words :pink_heart:

Thank you for the kind words! I figured since my recovery feels like it will be easy, people need to hear the good stories! Hope you are managing okay over there! Still thinking of your food wish list you mentioned before!

Super good news that you’ve “lost” that spike. Agreed it looks very chunky! When Dr. C commented it was crushing into your spine, I assume that meant C1. There’s a good chance you didn’t need C1 shaved if he/Dr. Heller didn’t shave it as the problem may have been more w/ the angle of styloid growth than with C1 itself.

I’m so glad you’re already feeling better that bodes well! I prayed for you on your surgery day & will continue to pray for a smooth & complete recovery.
