Hi, don’t know if anyone is still on this page but I tried the 3D slicer program–or my husband did, many, many times and ultimately the problem is that one of the series/studies does NOT show up in the list or drop down entry (after we open the eye) even though it is in the initial list of the uploaded files. Of course, it’s the critical one. We can get a 3D image of the top half of my skull on another study/series but of that’s not what I want to see most. Can anyone advise or can I send you the files and see if you can do it? I have a lot riding on this information b/c the radiologist said my veins and arteries are fine even though 10 months ago a 3D rendering done by Dr. Middleton showed a very significant problem on both sides. help!
If you have Windows machine, try Radiant Viewer. Much easier to use

It is easy to use but I still can’t see anything but a few slices of each series even though it says there are over a 1100 pictures in the one that I most important. Maybe they didn’t give me all the pictures. I don’t know what’s wrong. None of the series shows anything useful as they are all just tiny bits even in 3D.

whoops. I didn’t wait long enough for the files to load. I did get the whole head and am learning how to cut away parts. Absolutely no flow visible on the left jugular vein and big one on the right. It looks similar to the one I did last year that a professional did the 3D thing but not as clear since I don’t know what I am doing. Thanks!

Try to copy the CD content to the computer’s disc and the radiant will load the images practically instantaneously.

I’m WAY out of touch with my messages, but to all the people still having trouble making images, this may help!
3D Slicer has gone through some significant updates and changes since I wrote this tutorial. It almost looks like a different program! Plus it is much more resource heavy and some people’s computers just can’t handle it.
Luckily, Slicer keeps a library of older versions of their program. I wrote this tutorial based on 3D Slicer version 4.5.0-1 and you can download it in the link below:

I wanted to add my thanks for this post @SnappleofDiscord this is still helping people and was what I needed to make a powerpoint to get my surgeon to agree to do a styloidectomy that ended up resolving my symptoms that had been going on for almost 3 years.

That’s great news on all accounts, @tckelly1 ! The information about making 3D images is on the older side, & we’re recommending other 3D conversion programs now so it’s good to know the 3D slicer program still works.
Do you mind sharing who did your ES surgery? How long ago did you have surgery?

Sure, Dr. Yash Pitel from Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, did my surgery with a bit of convincing 4 months ago. As many has said, recovery takes a while and I appreciated the guidance from this group on what to expect.

Thank you, @tckelly1. I just checked & he’s not on our Doctors List. Since you’ve had a good outcome, I’ll add him. You said it took some convincing to get him to do your surgery. Is that because he typically doesn’t do ES surgeries or because he didn’t think surgery would help you or some other reason?

He does styliod surgeries frequently, but not for ES specifically. He thought I had less than a 50% chance of a positive outcome, but I asked him to go ahead and he did. I liked working with him and I think he was being conservative.
