Neck, Muscles, Shoulders, Ribcage and Biomechanics

The longer I’ve been diving into the topics of physiotherapy, biomechanics, and spending endless hours on figuring out why so many people get “straight/military” neck, the more I get convinced it’s a lot about the complex mechanics of spine/ribcage/scapula/shoulder mobility.

Among thousands of videos I watched, the content produced by this lovely lady from South Africa is one of those rare gems. Below is just one video of many on her channel. The most important take-away is that she clearly demonstates what the proper biomechanics are supposed to be in action as opposed in static positions. These are things that cannot be detected with typical regular x-ray, CT, MRI protocols. And at the same time, very (and I mean it, VERY) few physiotherapists are aware of the deep and intrinsic details of biomechanics. Unfortunately, many of them are telling you what they learned of textbooks that obviously don’t have the video (https://www.facebook.com/reel/1616418689874861) that shows how exactly each structure and muscle moves during the activity.

@vdm - Thank you so much for coming back to give us updated information about military neck & the complex mechanics that can lead to it.

Your previous discussion, which you linked at the bottom of this post, is one of the references we use most often to help our members who have military neck. You always have tremendously helpful insight for our members. I’m looking forward to learning from the link in this post.

I hope you’ve had some healing progress since you last posted here.
