Not sure which route to take?

I just saw my neurosurgeon who was investigating me for leak after I felt I had intercranial hypertension. He hasn’t heard of eagles. He wants to refer me to another neurologist: I’m not sure which way to go now? Does Dr Axon need prefer a letter from a neurologist/GP? I know some doctors don’t like you self-referring.

I would make an enquiry online or by phone if you have private insurance & want to skip the waiting lists…it might be worth going the NHS route with another neuro as well, but certainly not worth paying privately to see a different neuro. Hopefully someone who’s seen Mr Axon can let you know, @Rosie has seen him, and also @theFury has recently!

Hi @Hamonrye I had an initial private appointment with Mr Axon at The Spire Cambridge Lea. The cost was £500 for 35 minutes, but I had sent over my CT and all other info before I attended, so I could make full use of my 35 minutes as it goes very quickly. I am now on NHS surgery list under Mr Axon, around 15 month wait.

My referral was from NHS Neurology to NHS Addenbrookes, but I self referred privately in the meantime.

Hi Rosie, I haven’t got a CT scan of my neck. My neurosurgeon who was investigating my CFS leak wanted to refer me back to a neurologist, but that feels like it’s holding things up. How did you get a scan? I think I will need my GP to refer or aGP with bupa, as they may not pay if I self refer.

Originally my GP referred me to Neurology under NHS had to wait 12 weeks, they ordered the CT with contrast, so I had this to send to Mr Axon. I don’t have PMI so I am not sure how that works, I would think you probably would need a referral to make a claim.

Thanks for response.
Can Dr Axon order the imaging? I don’t know what to do now? If I see a neuro again, it’s not in my excess and I will have to pay their fees. I’ve spent so much over the years.

Hi yes Mr Axon can arrange the CT through The Spire, I think @theFury mentioned it was around £1340 for a private scan.

Thanks now I need to get Bupa doctor or my GP to refer, unless, I can link it to my car accident. I think Bupa said it can bypass normal channels if linked to the accident.

Neck trauma is a known cause of ES, & may of us have had a whiplash injury… Not sure if any of the research papers mention this…have found a couple:
