There has been some question as to why Dr. Costantino removes the posterior digastric muscle as a routine part of his IJV decompression surgeries. I just found this great picture online that made it more clear to me as to why he would do this. Though I don’t agree that it should be routinely removed, it does show that the posterior digastric runs a course that could definitely contact the IJV & impact its flow.
