Stent after Decompression

I saw Hepworth yesterday and my left jugular is compressed around C2. Styloids are already out. My right jugular is three times the size of my left. He said after decompression there is a 20 % chance I’ll need a stent. So I’m curious who here has needed a stent…anyone get a stent after a Hepworth surgery? So thankful for this group.

From what I remember, not many members have had this…it’s not ideal as it can cause pain, & can’t be removed once it’s in, so I think the doctors don’t do this unless absolutely necessary. There are a couple of research papers which discuss stenting in the Research Papers category, this one was written by Dr Hepworth:
New paper by Fargen, Hui and Hepworth, et al - General / Research Papers - Living with Eagle
Brain Slump Caused by Jugular Venous Stenoses Treated by Stenting: A Hypothesis to Link Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension - General / Research Papers - Living with Eagle

I’m glad you’ve had your appointment w/ Dr. Hepworth, @JSwing! Since he said there’s only a 20% chance you’ll need a stent, I’d be optimistic in looking at the 80% chance that you won’t need one. In addition to what @Jules said, stents in the neck can also move out of place & cause worse problems. I’m sure Dr. Hepworth or the vascular surgeon he’d recommend, if you ended up needing a stent, would go over all the positives & negatives w/ you so you could make an informed decision before having that type of surgery.
