I am very grateful to you guys for taking the time out and give such amazing insights. Now I know more and better.
hey,
I see the calcified part is basically just āfloatingā. Does that mean I dont have styloids? Is that even possible?
Also, since the calcified part of the ligament is very small, is it possible for them to cause such pain? I hear that many have it and that comes with age.
Can the ligaments cause this fish bone stuck in my throat like feeling. Have this for 6 years at least
Sorry for the troubling questions again. I am just lost.
I hadnāt noticed the gaps, well spotted @Isaiah_40_31 ! Iād just presumed it was all styloid processā¦ Jebin, your friend who helped you find the distance between the styloid/ calcified ligament & the C1 is right that this can cause problems as it can compress structures between the two, but when theyāre angled in other ways like yours are it can still cause issues with other nerves and blood vesselsā¦
Yes, the calcified ligaments can still cause the feeling of a bone stuck in your throat, as it can irritate the Glossopharyngeal Nerve. Itās a classic and one of the most well known ES symptom. The calcification you have isnāt that small, it would certainly be enough to cause symptoms; weāve had members with calcifications almost as small as grains of rice along their ligaments which can cause problems.
Ligament calcification doesnāt mean you donāt have styloids. It just means that your body felt those ligaments needed reinforcing for some reason so it laid down calcium along a section of them. I will say your styloids seem to be very small/short as I couldnāt really see them in your scan.
Yeah I cannot seem to see my styloids either, which is why I thought that I might not have styloid processes?
Sorry for the late reply. I am really bad at checking email (well, at anything on a screen really). But especially email. IF you are on FB, there is an outstanding TOS group there - at minimum you could look at the list of Drs to find one that you can get to to keep searching that angle as well. A CT wonāt show TOS unless you have an extra rib which is a very outdated strict way of diagnosing it (the majority of us with TOS do not have an extra cervical ribā¦ I was also dismissed after doing a CT and it showing no extra rib). If you arenāt on FB, Iāll be happy to copy the list of docs for you. DXing TOS is done by a series of provocative maneuvers pre and post a lidocaine injection into the scalene. Although the maneuvers themselves are very telling if you do have it (without need for lidocaine).
Your calcification looks kind of similar to mine (you have a lot clearer 3D model than mine though). My right side looks about as long as your shorter side and my left side is about half as long although it has a few tiny pieces of calcification further down the ligament. My styloids arenāt really visible. I have crazy amounts of knots in my neck and shoulder muscles along with a lot of the other classic eagles symptoms like throat pain and feeling like something is poking me in the throat. I havenāt had any luck with my local Drās telling me if my calcification could be causing my symptoms but Iāve been working on trying to get a consult with a doctor experienced in eagles syndrome to talk with. I feel like situations like ours are tricky because it seems like a decent number of doctors donāt think that smaller amounts of calcification can cause problems (if thatās what is causing your problems).
If you want Iāll keep you updated on what I find out with my investigation since your scans look kind of similar to mine.
