UK and Ireland - Scans and treatment

Anyone in the UK or Ireland, how did you get a CTV or CTA scan done? I’ve no chance of gettting it done through consulting my GP so would be interested in hearing how anyone else may have got these scans done.

I’ve got CCI and AAI symptoms which I’m waiting on an upright MRI for this Saturday but also jaw issues for years and I’m concerned the symptoms could be from IJV or artery compression too, hard to know obviously until I’ve had the imaging done.

Any help appreciated, thanks

As far as I’m aware, it’s only fairly recently that GP’s can request a CT, it always used to be requested by a consultant…but at a guess this will only be for suspected cancer patients, I doubt many GPs will want to use their budget for it in other conditions!
Most of the members have either gone through the NHS via a consultant , and waited ages for scans, or otherwise unfortunately to get seen have had to pay privately, not much of a choice!
So if you’re able to get a referral to either an ENT or a skull base/ otolarnygologist surgeon, or a head & neck vascular or cancer surgeon, then you might be able to request a scan. If you can get a referral, then we usually suggest that you print out a research paper or 2 which describe symptoms similar to yours- there’s a Research papers category on here.
Here’s a link to the Doctors List, there are a few doctors in England, a couple in Ireland, but none in N Ireland that we know of I’m afraid…I don’t know how easy it is to get a referral across the border?

Just having a quick look online, the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast ENT dept mentions complex head & neck surgery as well as skull base surgery, so that might be a starting point for you?
Good luck!

I’ve had similar issues trying to get appointments, mainly because my old GP surgery was terrible and anyone I saw thought I was making it all up. I’ve since had a normal CT scan done which confirms eagles, but I haven’t been able to have a CT with contrast to check for compression (it’s a long story). Anyway, recently I changed GP surgery and it is a lot better, I can get an appointment really quickly and they’ve referred me to ENT and S&LT straight away. If you’re not getting anywhere with your current GP it might be worth changing? Or paying to go private if that’s an option?
