Any other surgeons in mn recommended?

So apparently Dr Omlie is no longer allowed to do anymore Eagle syndrome surgeries, so I now have to find another surgeon anyone any ideas, preferably Minnesota but I will travel to surrounding states???

So I’ve found Dr Garvis or Ondrey any recommendations to which one might be more skilled?

No longer allowed to? Why?

Something about authority above him Ugg

Dr Ondrey I don’t feel is a good option. He told me he can do internal or external and will only shorten the styloid to “normal” length. I didn’t get a warm, fuzzy feeling in his ability to go externally especially given he encouraged me to go to Omlie as the better choice. I’m also not certain that Gervais is doing ES surgeries.

This is really a shame for Omlie. I hope others can help you get in the right direction. I wonder if you could pass. Message to Omlie to see if he has another specialist he could point you to.

I have a consult with Garvis mid August, so more waiting, hopefully he takes me on

Oh GOOD! Where is he located?

He is all over but I believe he operates out of Abbot Minneapolis, my initial consultation is in coon rapids I just said I wanted the soonest one I didn’t care where it was lol, I hope he decides to operate otherwise I don’t know what I’ll do Ugg

@Millymay ~

What a disappointment. I’m so, so sorry!! If you type Dr. Garvis in the search box, there are a number of posts that come up where he’s mentioned. That will give you an idea of the type of experiences our other members who’ve seen him had. If he ends up being a “no go” we can try to recommend other doctors, but you may need to travel further afield.

That’s so frustrating- for you & other members, especially as good ES surgeons are hard to find

Jules, this has weighed heavy on me and while each facility has a right to dictate for reasons we may not understand, do you think there is any value for in submitting a letter asking this be reconsidered? I wonder who a person could express their voice to?

Omlie may not understand the full scope of ES, but I believe he’s a fine and capable surgeon.

I don’t think it would hurt to write a letter, I guess to the director of his department if you could find that out. Maybe if they hear the impact being able to have this surgery has on people they might think about it…

I would even write a letter. He’s an excellent surgeon. I’m so grateful he was able to get me in!

I saw Garvis but he felt I should see Omlie. I also saw Ondrey, but he deals with things from a different angle- and he also sent me to Omlie.

This is terrible.

Thanks, I had chosen Omlie because he did the external opp, but I’ve read allot of good results from Garvis so hopefully it will all be fine in the end, but it might be Christmas before I get my first surgery at this rate Ugg

I’m so sorry for this set back, @Millymay. Did you have an appointment w/ Dr. O that was cancelled or were you told when you tried to make an appt that he’s no longer taking ES patients? It might be worthwhile to call again & say you have a “friend” (i.e. @tokenegret) for whom Dr. Omlie just did ES surgery & ask when his policy changed. No harm in pushing a little.

I’d already seen him he’d told me how he was going to do the surgery, I was just awaiting a date, they had told me august or September, then they phoned me and told me he is no longer able to do eagle surgery anymore something to do with the directors decision

I’m so sorry! It isn’t right that he isn’t able to fulfill a commitment he made. Need to find out who the “directors” are & give them some info about ES that they clearly lack!!!
