I had my surgery!

Hello everyone from Perth Australia! I’d just like to let you know after 2 years I finally had the right styloid removed !

Yesterday afternoon I went under around 3pm - via intraoral, and must admit has not been as painful as my tonsillectomy.

Stiff jaw when opening and not much pain while swallowing after 36 hours

Although I am currently on Panadol neurofen and oxycodone I feel like my recovery is going to be swift.

I had Dr Richard Lewis, he put me at ease prior to going under and though he hadn’t done this before, I knew I could trust him as he has had experience with deep neck surgeries removing cancers around the same area

I can tell he was gentle with me as the pain could’ve been worse - in the end they removed 2cm of the styloid

Can anyone confirm how many cases in Australia has been documented?

Thanks again !

Great that you’ve been able to have surgery, and that you’re not in too much pain! I hope that your recovery goes smoothly & surgery is successful!
I don’t know how many cases there have been in Australia; we don’t see that many members on here given the size of the country! In general we all feel that ES isn’t as rare as the info online states, we think it’s just under diagnosed! There doesn’t seem to be many doctors in Australia doing the surgery so it could be it’s just hard to get diagnosed in your country rather than there not being many ES patients!

HOORAY that your surgery is done, @Rhysyboy92! It’s excellent news that you’re not in much pain, too, & especially that it’s been better than your tonsillectomy was!

It sounds like you chose a good & experienced surgeon to do your surgery. Please keep us updated as to how your recovery goes. If you feel your outcome is good, we’ll add Dr. Lewis to our Doctors List. We’re always in search of new names to add there especially in countries like yours where we don’t have many names.

Thank you so much ! I will definitely keep everyone informed on my recovery !

He’s on the list, but we haven’t had much detail about his ES surgeries…he did @F_t 's hyoid surgery :+1:

Hello @Rhysyboy92 fellow sandgroper! Such a small city, yet there are a few of us on here… Yes indeed Dr Lewis did my clicking larynx syndrome surgery in September. He is a lovely man isn’t he? I recall he said that he had seen Eagles before, but i wasn’t sure if he had done surgery. Well now confirmed that he has! So happy for you that you had your surgery and are feeling much better. Even though you are early in your recovery, i hope that all continues to go well for you and you have a positive outcome.
