Operation Dec 2019

Still waiting a date

Hi all
Well after contacting surgeon secretary Friday I have now been given a date for my intra oral operation Feb 20th. But can I ask, anyone who has had intra oral how long did it take for you to recover?as I have a holiday booked abroad 10wks post op. I am nervous as I have had two operations previously in the throat area and on both occasions had nasty infections and had to be re admitted so I am considering postponing the holiday. Anylon suggestions welcome , thanks

Hi Sukinsmudge,

Though I had external surgery, I think your trip should be ok as is. It takes 8ish weeks post op for either intraoral or external surgery recovery. Actually, recovery goes on long after that time but to feel pretty normal again, it takes 8 or so weeks.

If your gut says to move your trip to a later date then that might be your safer bet.

I do agree that you should be fine to go on your holiday by then! Is it a trip you coukd easily postpone? A shame that the surgery was postponed & it’s brought the date closer to your trip, hope you get it done next time!

Mine has just been rescheduled for January 17th

Not too long to wait, hope you get the answers you need to find the confidence to have the surgery.

Sukinsmudge,

I apologize if you have already said this, I am replying via email. (I have intraoral for the 17th. I am glad we will be able to share information. I have so many questions regarding recovery myself.)

Questions:

  1. Are you having your tonsils removed? (I am)

  2. Are you having bilateral removal of the styloids? (I am)

  3. Are you having ligaments removed? (I am waiting on an answer)

I will be able to share what I have learned this far based on the answers

Thank you Isaiah
My husband thinks we should postpone to be on the safe side so I can enjoy my holiday at a later date.

Hi Gewndolyn
Had my tonsils removed 35 years ago.
Ònly right side, not full removal, just partial. Oh not sure really ligaments but styloid very calcified. Yes please share any info greatly received.

Thanks Jules
Will have to cancel and hopefully get same holiday later in the year

I agree with postponing, just in case. I think the stress any patient might have of “getting better on time”, even if well within the 10 weeks, could make everything more difficult.

I am still studying the tonsillectomy recovery part. I am relieved you don’t have to go through that again! :slightly_smiling_face:

If you can do that without losing money etc, then it does take the pressure off your recovery, as Gwen suggests.

Oops yes, of course financial considerations are really important too. Finances can be super duper stressful! Trust me I am the poster woman for that

Good news managed to move my holiday to Sept, different area and different airport closer too, no charge, relieved.

That’s good, it’ll take the pressure off! :+1:

I hope you are well… any updates?

Hi Gwendolyn
Sorry missed this comment, I saw ent 1st wk August had camera, slight changes in throat area, but due to covid19 he said I be lucky to have operation within a year!I have to keep eye, if I get any lumps or swallowing issues get worse I will be seen urgently.
